Connection, confidence and a place to belong.
We believe some of the greatest opportunities aren’t found inside another disability service. They’re found in cafés, churches, schools, businesses, clubs and communities where people are known and valued.

Sound familiar?
If any of these ring true, this page is for you - or for someone you care for.
- There are places you want to go - the beach, the shops, a game - but getting there on your own is the hard part
- You want to meet people, and "just join a group" is easier said than done
- Weekends keep looking the same, and you're ready for them to look different
- You've tried programs that felt like being managed, not included
- You're supporting someone, and you want to see them out doing things they enjoy - with support you trust
Where could this take you?
Community participation is not simply about taking you somewhere. It is about helping you become part of the places, relationships and experiences that matter to you. That could mean:
-
Local shops and servicesBuilding confidence using the shops and services near you -
A café where they know you -
Community events -
Something newSport, music, art or another interest - with trusted support beside you -
Friendships -
Contributing
Six examples of community participation, not a schedule - clubs, churches, community groups, workplaces and travelling more confidently in your local area are all part of it too. Where you go, what you do and who comes along - always your call.
We want to help you find places where you can do more than attend
We want you to have opportunities to participate, build relationships, contribute and become known for who you are and what you bring.
Your support worker can help you explore your interests, prepare for new experiences, communicate with other people and gradually build the confidence to participate more independently.
We begin with what matters to you. Together, we can explore the people, places and possibilities that could help you feel more connected to your community.
The detail, in plain English
What can community participation look like?
- Joining a local club, church or community group
- Going to a café and becoming familiar with the people who work there
- Attending community events and activities
- Exploring sport, music, art or other interests
- Building confidence using local shops and services
- Volunteering or contributing to a community project
- Visiting workplaces and exploring employment pathways
- Developing friendships around shared interests
- Learning how to travel more confidently in your local area
- Trying something new with trusted support beside you
Which part of my plan pays for this?
Community and group support is funded from your Core Supports budget - it appears in NDIS plans as "Social & Community Participation" (the formal term is "Participation in Community, Social and Civic Activities"). Some skill-building programs can also draw on the Capacity Building category "Increased Social & Community Participation". If it's in your plan, it's included - and if you're not sure, ask us and we'll help you check. How pricing works.
Do I have to join a group?
No. Plenty of people prefer one-on-one outings, and that's completely fine. Some start one-on-one and join a small group later, once it feels right. There's no pressure either way - the pace is yours.
Who pays for tickets and coffees?
Your NDIS funding covers your support worker's time. Everyday costs like entry tickets, meals or coffees are your own - the same as for anyone. We'll always be upfront about any costs before you commit to an activity, so there are no surprises.
Can I choose who comes with me?
Yes. We match support workers to your interests, and if someone isn’t the right fit, say so and we’ll talk through a change. Who you spend your time with is always your decision.
