How accessible this website is
Beyond Disability Support runs this website. We want everyone to be able to use it - so this page tells you honestly what works, what doesn't yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way. We measure it against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA - the international standard for accessible websites. There is also an Easy Read page about Beyond.
Where this site stands
This website partly meets the WCAG 2.2 level AA standard.
Every check we can run now passes - the six shortfalls listed in July were fixed by 26 September 2026 and sit in the ledger below. We still say partly until people who use screen readers, switch access or voice control every day have tested it. What is left, and why, is further down this page.
Change how this site looks and moves
These four controls are built into every page, behind the button at the top of the screen. Try them here - they work straight away, and the site remembers your choice on every page.
If you've set larger text, reduced motion or a high-contrast theme in your own device settings, this site follows those too - you don't have to set it twice.
What we tested, and what passed
Every result below was measured on the staging build on 26 September 2026 - not estimated from the design files.
- Text alternatives on imagesMeets AA84 images checked. Every one carries a description, or is correctly marked as decoration so screen readers skip it.
- Labels on form fieldsMeets AA233 fields across 21 forms. Every one has a name a screen reader can read out.
- Reading at 320 pixels wideMeets AAAll 38 pages hold together on a narrow phone or at 400% zoom, with no sideways scrolling.
- Size of buttons and linksMeets AAEvery control is large enough to hit, or spaced far enough from its neighbours.
- Keyboard focus is visibleMeets AAWhatever you tab to shows a clear outline. Nothing on the site hides it.
- Skipping past the menuMeets AAA "skip to main content" link is the first thing you reach with the Tab key.
- Reduced motionMeets AAMovement stops when your device asks for it, and there's a manual control as well.
- Text on the coral buttonsFixed 26 Sep 2026White writing on coral measured 2.78:1. Buttons now carry large, bold writing (18.7 pixels) on a slightly deeper coral - 3.4:1, above the 3:1 the standard sets for large text. The one small button, in the header, is outlined instead, with dark-coral writing at 5.3:1, and on dark panels the writing is navy (6.2:1). The higher-contrast setting turns buttons navy, or white on dark panels.
- Links that went nowhereFixed 25 Sep 2026The privacy policy, feedback and complaints, and know-your-rights links in the footer and information strip now open the Your rights page.
- Faint small printFixed 26 Sep 2026Funding notes on the services pages, the numbers in the resources list and the coral labels on the support coordination page were darkened to at least 4.5:1, or 3:1 where the text is large.
- Writing over photographsFixed 26 Sep 2026The shading behind words on the service tiles and the community photo grid was strengthened so it no longer depends on which photograph sits underneath.
- The Escape keyFixed 26 Sep 2026Escape now closes the menu and the accessibility panel and puts you back on the button that opened them. While the menu is open, the Tab key stays inside it.
- Text on purple panels and photosFixed 26 Sep 2026Measuring the actual pixels behind words on gradients and photographs found paragraph text on the purple panels at 3.8 to 4.4:1 - it now reaches 4.5:1 or better everywhere. In the higher-contrast setting, some decorative shapes and highlighter marks turned dark navy behind text; they're now removed in that setting, and highlighted words are underlined instead.
- Announcing a change of pageFixed 25 Jul 2026Moving between pages used to happen silently for screen reader users. Each page now has its own name and address, and reading starts at the new heading.
What we haven't finished yet
Nothing we can measure falls short right now. Two things are still open, and we'd rather say so.

Testing with people who rely on assistive technology
Being arrangedEvery result on this page comes from a person using developer tooling. Automated and manual code testing catches a great deal, but it does not replace testing with the people the standard exists for - screen reader, switch and voice-control users. Until that's done, we call this site partly compliant, not compliant.

- Sessions with people who use assistive technology daily. We'll update this page when they've happened.

Some pages don't have their own web address yet
Being improvedOn this staging build every page opens from one address with a "#" after it. Screen readers announce each page correctly, but sharing a link to a single page, or finding one through a search engine, works less well than it should.

- Each page gets its own address when the site launches.

If you're not happy with how we respond
You can take it further, and we won't hold it against you. The Australian Human Rights Commission handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. How we tested this
On 25 July 2026 we tested all 17 pages of this site against WCAG 2.2 level AA, and on 26 September 2026 we re-tested all 38 pages - including the twenty-one added since. Colour contrast was calculated for every piece of text, in each of the four display settings above as well as the default. Where words sit on a gradient or a photograph, we measured the actual pixels behind them. We checked keyboard navigation, form labelling, page layout at 320 pixels wide, and the size of every button and link.
What we haven't done yet: this round of testing was carried out by a person using developer tooling, not by people who use screen readers, switch access or voice control every day. Automated and manual code testing catches a great deal, but it does not replace testing with the people the standard exists for. Arranging that is the next piece of work, and we'll update this page when it's done.
